Dr. David Sinclair Named Chief Patient Safety and Quality Officer

David Sinclair, M.D., MBA, associate professor of anesthesiology, has been named Chief Patient Safety and Quality Officer of the University of Miami Health System, a position he has filled on an interim basis since November.

In this role, Sinclair will provide strategic leadership of mandatory quality programs, focused attention to value-based care, support to a robust performance improvement system, and commitment to a system-wide culture of safety. He will partner with operational leaders, front-line staff and physicians to ensure integration of key quality, safety, effectiveness and compliance activities, while reporting to Dr. Michael Barron as Chief Medical Officer of the University of Miami Health System.

Sinclair brings a wealth of leadership experience as former Associate Chief Medical Officer and Patient Safety Officer at University of Miami Hospital, Associate Chief Medical Information Officer for the University of Miami Health System, and Associate Chief of Anesthesiology and Head of Informatics in the UMH Division of Anesthesiology. Because of his extensive healthcare knowledge he is in the final phase of American College of Healthcare Executives Fellowship certification.

Sinclair earned his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal. After completing residency at the University of Rochester, he returned to Canada as an ambulatory anesthesia research fellow at the University of Toronto. In 2014, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Florida Atlantic University.
