Dr. Mark S. Nash Receives Rehabilitation Lifetime Achievement Award

Mark S. Nash, Ph.D., professor of neurological surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and physical therapy at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, was recently selected by the Board of Governors of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine to receive the organization’s John Stanley Coulter Award.

The award is named for the acknowledged “Father of Rehabilitation Medicine,” and it recognizes a professional whose lifetime achievements have contributed significantly to the field of rehabilitation. Only one person annually has been chosen to receive this recognition since 1951. In receiving the award Dr. Nash joins a list of the most distinguished clinical and research representatives of the rehabilitation profession.

Dr. Nash is co-director of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research South Florida SCI Model System, chair of the Consortium for Spinal Cord Medicine Guideline Panel on Cardioendocrine Disease, and a founding principal investigator for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

He delivered the Coulter Keynote Lecture — “Disparities of Cardiometabolic Risk Assessment and Intervention after Spinal Cord Injuries: At the Fork in the Road?” — during the congress’s annual conference in Dallas.
