More than 300 University of Miami Miller School of Medicine alumni returned to campus March 7-9 to celebrate their shared journeys as medical students, physicians and health care leaders.
Medical Alumni Weekend 2025, the medical school’s annual reunion, featured a three-day celebration with several new events, including “Conversations with the Dean” at the THesis Hotel in Coral Gables. Miller School Dean and Chief Academic Officer, Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., shared the significant accomplishments the Miller School has achieved and gave his vision of the future.

“From the very first class to today’s bright, excellent students, our institution has evolved,” said Dean Ford. “Yet, the core mission remains the same: to train doctors who change the world for the better.”
Jose Guerra, B.S. ’68, M.D. ’72, also a board advisor for the school’s Medical Alumni Association, shared why it was vital for him to attend.
“I came today out of gratitude and obligation for the education that I received at the Miller School of Medicine as a medical student and the experience I gained as a faculty member of 30 years,” Dr. Guerra said. “Also, although I graduated in the class of 1972, I have friends in the classes of 1970 and 1975, so I wanted to see them.”

Following the Dean’s welcome, the celebration moved to Milestone Mixers for the classes of 1960, 1965, 1970 and 1975, who celebrated their 65th, 60th, 55th and 50th reunions, respectively. Alums from other classes reconnected and mingled at the welcome reception.

The following day, alumni returned to the Miller School for tours to see the campus and learn about how the Miller School has grown since their time as students. After the tours, alumni provided a unique opportunity for current students to explore a wide range of specialties, gaining invaluable wisdom and insight from the alumni who have walked the path before them.
The day ended back at the THesis Hotel for the reunion celebration, the weekend’s main event, which was themed “Havana Nights.” Alumni grabbed fedoras and danced to some of the most popular songs of the different decades while enjoying hors d’oeuvres with their peers.
Before heading home, many alumni gathered for brunch at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables and shared anecdotes and experiences, and reveled in the enduring bond that ties them to the Miller School.

As alumni said their goodbyes, the echoes of laughter, shared stories and renewed connections lingered. The weekend celebrated achievements of the past and laid the foundation for the Miller School’s future success and growth, fueled by its distinguished alumni’s unwavering support and legacy.
