The Bronchiectasis and Non-Tuberculous Mycobacterial (NTM) Clinic at UHealth—University of Miami Health System has been designated as a Bronchiectasis and NTM Clinical Associate Center, a testament to its dedication to excellence in patient care.

With the rising incidence of NTM infections worldwide, specialized care has become crucial. The UHealth clinic, under the leadership of Lisa Domaradzki, M.D., a faculty member of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, was re-established in 2020 and has since expanded to become a nationally leading center, specializing in the complex, multidisciplinary care of NTM and bronchiectasis patients in the Miami region.

“The patients we see require reliable access to a specialized care team to prevent disease progression and reduce the risk of hospitalization,” Dr. Domaradzki said. “As a result, our UHealth clinic is one of the few centers in the nation that brings together an expert team with an integrated, patient-centered approach that is both comprehensive and unique.”

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Complex Conditions

The clinic’s multidisciplinary team includes specialists from otolaryngology (ENT), thoracic surgery and gastroenterology. In addition, the clinic is further supported by dietitians, social workers, pharmacists and nurses. Patients see a respiratory therapist and nurse to assess their history, medications and equipment needs prior to pulmonary function tests and evaluations by physicians.

“Our team-based model is transformative for patients,” Dr. Domaradzki said. “This clinic provides a unique setting where patients can access multiple specialists in one coordinated visit, ensuring a comprehensive, supportive approach to care.”

Personalized Treatment and Leading-Edge Research

Each patient’s care plan is tailored to their unique needs, beginning with advanced diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests, CT scans and sputum cultures. The clinic is also at the forefront of research, participating in national clinical trials for emerging treatments.

“We are continually strengthening our clinic’s capacity to provide the most effective and innovative care possible,” Dr. Domaradzki said. “Our national recognition further propels the clinic’s commitment to leadership in both patient care and research.”
