Art MD ‘Smoke Out’ Exhibit Now Open at Shalala Student Center

Art MD, a non-profit organization founded by a group of residents and faculty at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital with the mission of creating art-based health promotion campaigns, has its “Smoke Out” tobacco-cessation exhibit on display at UM’s Donna E. Shalala Student Center through May 13.

Works of art in the exhibit are intended to inspire viewers to quit smoking.

Each art piece seeks to inspire viewers in a different way to quit smoking. Some were made from discarded cigarette butts. The same exhibit was on display at the Calder Medical Library last year.

“As physicians, we are constantly struggling to find effective ways to motivate our patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Zeina Hannoush, M.D., an endocrinology resident and president of Art MD. “Art is a powerful communication tool that transcends all language barriers. We are inviting our colleagues to join us in looking for creative ways to inspire and deliver a powerful health message to the masses by bridging the gap between art and medicine.”

The Shalala Student Center is located at 1330 Miller Road, Coral Gables, 33146. For more information, visit http://www.artmdproject.com/.
