Dorinda Carolina to Join UHealth as Chief Human Resources Officer

Dorinda Carolina, a human resources executive with more than 25 years of leadership experience at leading medical institutions, will join the University of Miami Health System as associate vice president of human resources and chief human resources officer for UHealth on February 1. She will report to Edward Abraham, M.D., executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UHealth, and Mary Harper Hagan, interim vice president for human resources at the University of Miami.

As chief human resources officer for the UHealth system, Carolina will lead overall talent and workforce strategies, projects and initiatives impacting more than 11,000 employees. She will support the vision, strategic plan, and operating objectives of UHealth and the Miller School of Medicine. She will also provide counsel to leadership, develop strategic and tactical workforce plans, and deliver 5 to Thrive HR initiatives in support of patient care, financial, research, and customer service objectives.

Carolina was most recently employed at Thomas Jefferson University Health System in Philadelphia, where she served as vice president of talent acquisition and chief human resources officer for Jefferson Northeast. Previously, she was chief human resources officer for Aria Health System, Pennsylvania Hospital and Clinical Care Associates. She held earlier positions as vice president of human resources at Pegasus Communications and Tenet Health System.

Born in Panama, Carolina emigrated to the U.S. with her family when she was 15, later attending Cabrini College. Although she came from a health care family — her mother worked as a nursing assistant for many years, and her sister is a registered nurse — she found a different way to respond to her call to service through human resources. Carolina said she is “looking forward to working for an organization that is focused on excellence,” and that her first order of business will be to meet as many UHealth employees as possible.

“The passion and commitment that Dorinda brings in service to others is truly what we are all about,” said Dr. Abraham. “Please join me in welcoming her to UM and UHealth.”
