“I am excited about this opportunity to represent Sylvester,” Perez said. “It is a great honor to be part of this group of very accomplished physicians and researchers in the field and a great opportunity to make a difference in the life of our patients.”

ASCO says the work of this committee includes the development of clinical practice guidelines, provisional clinical opinions, endorsements, adaptations, clinical tools and resources, and any derivative products for the promotion of quality cancer care. The committee is tasked with enhancing the quality, effectiveness, and appropriateness of cancer services from prevention through palliative care. Appointed members may include health services researchers, oncologists, patients, and experts in clinical trial design and analysis.

“As physicians we are always hoping to make the difference for one patient, but here you have a chance to make a difference for thousands of cancer survivors all over the world,” said Perez, who is also an associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Perez is triple board-certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology and has published numerous scientific papers and abstracts on breast cancer. She leads a multidisciplinary team of breast cancer experts at Sylvester at Plantation. By addressing each aspect of breast cancer care, including clinical trials, precision treatments, and breast cancer plastic and reconstruction surgical services, she and her team strive to address the physical, emotional, spiritual and nutritional needs of their patients.
