Dr. Craig Lockhart Named Chief of Division of Medical Oncology
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine have named Craig Lockhart, M.D., Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology.
Lockhart, currently professor of medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, Co-Leader of its Molecular Oncology and Developmental Therapeutics Section and Director of the Developmental Therapeutics program at the Siteman Cancer Center, will join Sylvester and the Miller School in April. He will also serve as Associate Director for Regional and Strategic Clinical Research Affiliations for Sylvester, and Chief of Medical Oncology Service for University of Miami Hospitals and Clinics.
Lockhart was chosen from among the top oncologists in the country because he exhibited not only the ability to take on the administrative and operational challenges of the position, but also outstanding dedication to education and patient care. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, did his internship and residency at Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, and completed fellowships in hematology/oncology and clinical pharmacology at Duke University Medical Center.
Lockhart’s area of specialization is gastroenterological cancer. His research interests focus on early-phase clinical trials for new cancer-treating medications. He is on the editorial board of the journal Investigational New Drugs, and a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine Oncology Board, the Investigational Drug Steering Committee of the National Cancer Institute, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology Scientific Committee.
Originally from Jamaica, Lockhart will be moving to Miami with his wife, Ellen Moseley Lockhart, M.D., who currently is professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis, and their two children.
