Dr. Rivka Stone Named H. Paul Ehrlich Rising Star
The award is the second in three years for faculty members from the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery.
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine dermatologist Rivka Stone, M.D., Ph.D., has been honored with the Wound Healing Foundation’s H. Paul Ehrlich Rising Star in Wound Healing Award.
Dr. Stone, an associate professor in the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, is the second Miller School faculty member in three years to garner the award. She joins Ivan Jozic, Ph.D., a research assistant professor of dermatology and cutaneous surgery, who won the award in 2022.
“I am thrilled that Dr. Stone is being recognized by the Wound Healing Foundation and research community for her achievements and discoveries in the translational science of wound healing,” said Marjana Tomic-Canic, Ph.D., the William H. Eaglstein, M.D., chair in wound healing, vice chair of research, director of the Wound Healing and Regenerative Medicine Research Program and professor of dermatology and cutaneous surgery at the Miller School.
The H. Paul Ehrlich Rising Star in Wound Healing Award commemorates the work of Dr. H. Paul Ehrlich, an internationally recognized scientist in wound healing and scar research whose career highlights included groundbreaking research on collagen metabolism during wound healing. Dr. Ehrlich was a founding member and the second director of the Wound Healing Society who served as board of director for 13 years and as foundation awards chair for 15 years. He was a staunch supporter of young investigator research.
The Rising Star award is the latest addition to an impressive list of national recognition for Dr. Stone. She’s also received:
• The Anita Roberts Award from the Wound Healing Society, awarded for the best first-author research article published in the Wound Repair and Regeneration journal
• The 3M Fellowship Award, also from the Wound Healing Foundation, given to support the independent research of outstanding young scientists.
Dr. Stone’s achievements reflect the recent accomplishments of the entire department, which include:
• Two Wound Healing Society Lifetime Achievement Award winners, William Eaglstein, M.D., in 2018, and Dr. Tomic-Canic in 2022.
• Irena Pastar, Ph.D., earning the 2023 Mid-Career Faculty Award winner from the Wound Healing Society.
• Jelena Marjanovic, Ph.D., garnering the 2024 Award for Excellence in Translational Regenerative Science from the Wound Healing Society.
“I take great pride in the tradition and legacy of the wound healing research at our department that continues to receive recognition,” Dr. Tomic-Canic said.
