Election to Mastership recognizes significant career accomplishments. Masters must have made a notable contribution to medicine. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching, outstanding work in clinical medicine (research or practice), contributions to preventive medicine, improvements in the delivery of health care, and/or contributions to the medical literature.

According to ACP bylaws, Masters are elected “on account of personal character, positions of honor, contributions toward furthering the purposes of the ACP, eminence in practice or in medical research, or other attainments in science or in the art of medicine.”

ACP activities are also taken into consideration for all candidates. This includes service to the ACP in an official capacity, participation in chapter activities, and involvement in the development of ACP products and educational programs. Volunteer and community service is also taken into consideration.

Dr. Cohn was the medical director of the UHealth Preoperative Assessment Center and director of the Medical Consultation Service at UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Before joining UHealth, he played a similar role at Kings County Hospital and was also chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and associate medical director for performance improvement at the State University of New York – Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He has been very active in ACP, on both state and national levels, presenting at meetings and participating on committees since 1997.

Dr. Cohn is the author/editor of three textbooks, 33 book chapters, 50 peer-reviewed publications, and multiple online media presentations and featured articles. He has given more than 400 presentations and is widely recognized as an expert in the field of perioperative medicine.

ACP will honor new Masters at the annual Convocation ceremony during Internal Medicine Meeting 2019, ACP’s annual scientific conference, to be held April 11-13 in Philadelphia.
