Medical Alumni Reconnect at Reunion Celebration After Two Years Apart
For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, alumni returned in person to the University of Miami on March 4-5 to reunite at the Miller School of Medicine’s 2022 Medical Alumni Weekend. Alumni and friends enjoyed a welcome reception at the Schoninger Research Quadrangle on the medical campus and a reunions reception at the Thesis Hotel Miami in Coral Gables.
“On behalf of the Medical Alumni Association, I want to let you know that we are thrilled to have such a great turnout,” said Alex J. Mechaber, M.D. ’94, president of the Medical Alumni Association and former senior associate dean for undergraduate medical education. “I know it is difficult to travel right now. But the fact that so many of you are here is testament to the connection so many of us have to our alma mater.”
On Friday evening, guests were greeted by current students, members of the Miller Parents Council, and Dean Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., who personally welcomed alumni back to campus and emphasized their role in propelling Miller toward today’s incredible accomplishments:
“The medical advances you are helping to develop, the patients whose lives you are transforming, and the breakthrough research you are leading in your fields…it collectively demonstrates why we are one of the nation’s most dynamic medical schools, and certainly on pace to rise to the pantheon of the nation’s best,” Dean Ford said.
Alumni reconvened for a rooftop cocktail reception on Saturday night at the THesis Hotel Miami, which drew more than 150 attendees. Connecting over hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and dancing, festivities went late into the night and celebrated all of the classes, including notable milestone reunions — classes of 1996 and 1997, celebrating their 25th reunion; 1971 and 1972, celebrating their 50th reunion; 1966 and 1967, celebrating their 55th reunion; 1961 and 1962, celebrating their 60th reunion; and 1956 and 1957, celebrating their 65th reunion.
