Miller School Alumni Weekend Celebrates Legacy and Achievement
Medical Alumni Weekend at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine invites alumni to return to campus and celebrate their journeys as medical students and health care leaders.
The 2024 Medical Alumni Weekend featured three days of celebration and nostalgic trips down memory lane. The weekend of festivities began with the hallmark Hall of Fame ceremony and reception. Jeffrey Jacobs, M.D. ‘88, professor of surgery and cardiac surgeon at the University of Florida, was inducted, the 31st Miller School alumnus to join the Hall of Fame.
Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., the Miller School’s dean and chief academic officer, spoke passionately about the crucial role alumni play in elevating the institution to national prominence.
“You are living proof of the amazing effects of the quality of the education that the Miller School provides,” remarked the Dean.

Following the Hall of Fame reception, the celebration moved to the Penthouse at Riverside Wharf, where alumni reconnected and reminisced beneath the illuminated Miami skyline. The following day, alumni visited campus, some for the first time in more than 10 years, to see the places where they learned and note the many additions. New buildings dotted the space and new types of learning in the form of NextGenMD, a three-phase curriculum Dean Ford introduced, sprinkled the conversations.
The festivities continued at Superblue Miami, where alumni immersed themselves in the museum’s interactive exhibits over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. The evening celebration at this spectacular venue provided an ideal setting for connections to flourish and shared experiences to deepen.
A Shared Gratitude
On the reunion’s final day, milestone alumni gathered for a special brunch at the iconic Loews® Coral Gables Hotel and shared anecdotes, toasted shared experiences and reveled in the enduring bond that ties them to the Miller School.
Alumni weekend closed with a sense of collective fulfillment and gratitude. As alumni said their goodbyes, the echoes of laughter, shared stories and renewed connections lingered. The weekend celebrated achievements of the past and laid the foundation for the Miller School’s future success and growth, fueled by the unwavering support and legacy of its distinguished alumni.
