Miller School of Medicine Launches Alumni Studio Digital Archive

A new interactive platform brings Miller School alumni photos, yearbooks and historical milestones online and accessible anytime, anywhere.

One of the highly anticipated events of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s annual Medical Alumni Weekend was the campus tour. Alumni had a chance to see how much the place that hosted their medical educations changed since they walked the grounds as medical students. One of the stops on the tour was the Rosenstiel Medical Education building, where, in years past, alumni would have spent hours locating their class photos with their former classmates.

Preserving Miller School History Through a Digital Alumni Archive

Now, these class portraits, along with additional alumni-related memorabilia, have moved to a new, interactive digital site, Alumni Studio. The site was unveiled during Medical Alumni Weekend and will also be permanently available via a digital kiosk located in the Rosenstiel Building.

“I was so grateful to be accepted to the Miller School of Medicine and looking back over the yearbooks on the Alumni Studio site reminded me of the amazing learning and experience I encountered at a place I consider home,” said Paul Skaggs, M.D. ‘81.

The Alumni Studio was born from a desire to update these assets to a modern medium and collect historical data on a single platform. Alumni Studio will feature a historical timeline of the Miller School, commencement programs, yearbooks, members of the Medical Alumni Association and a list of former Miller School deans.

A Central Platform for Miller School Milestones and Memories

“We cannot achieve the goal of being a preeminent medical school without a strong and engaged alumni base,” said Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., dean and chief academic officer of the Miller School. “We celebrate this relationship with the new Alumni Studio that honors the great alumni who helped the Miller School of Medicine reach its current status as one of the top medical schools in the country.”

Christian Diez, M.D. ’04, president of the Miller School Medical Alumni Association and a quadruple Cane, shared the vision of the Alumni Studio.

“It’s difficult to quantify the value that an engaged alumni base has for an institution,” said Dr. Diez. “We hope that this Alumni Studio will not only excite our alumni but encourage them to explore their connection to the Miller School.”

The Alumni Studio also provides a link for alumni who want to update their information.
