The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine maintained its ranking as one of the nation’s top 50 medical schools in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Medical Schools: Research. The publication’s 2023-2024 scores ranked the Miller School at No. 44.

The Miller School maintained its ranking as one of the nation’s top 50 medical schools, and is in the top 15 for diversity.

“Our continued high national ranking reflects our dedication to translating remarkable scientific discoveries into new patient therapies, while shaping the next generation of physicians and physician-scientists,” said Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., dean and chief academic officer of the Miller School. “I am proud of our researchers, clinicians, students and leaders. Their work is setting the stage for monumental advances that will improve the health of humanity.”

The U.S. News Best Graduate Schools rankings are based on academic and outcome indicators, including research activity through grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), peer assessment, student selectivity and faculty resources.

In March 2023, the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research ranked the Miller School No. 38 in the nation — up from No. 40 the previous year — for NIH funding, which totaled $175 million. The Miller School is the No. 1 NIH-funded medical school in Florida, well ahead of six public universities in the state, and has six research programs in the top 25 nationally.

U.S. News also ranked the Miller School No. 13 in the nation for its diversity, measuring the enrollment for underrepresented minority medical students.

“We are working hard to reduce inequities in clinical care and medical research,” said Dean Ford. “When a physician workforce mirrors the communities it serves, outcomes are improved. This is foundational for effectively and compassionately caring for patients everywhere.”
