Why did you want to become a #MedCanes Ambassador?
I launched my social media platform with the goal of offering guidance on navigating the medical school application process. Now, as I begin my journey at the Miller School, I’m excited to share firsthand insights into the daily life of a medical student. Becoming a #MedCanes Ambassador is an opportunity for me to highlight the exceptional professors, vibrant campus organizations and talented student community found at the Miller School.
What do you hope to get out of the ambassador program?
As a #MedCanes Ambassador, I aspire to foster an inclusive online community where individuals can support each other on their path throughout medical school. Through content, I aim to provide valuable insights into the realities of medical education, emphasizing both its challenges and triumphs.
Additionally, I seek to enhance my personal growth by expanding my online presence, refining my communication skills and honing my leadership abilities. Ultimately, my goal as an ambassador is to contribute meaningfully to the dialogue surrounding medical education and empower individuals to pursue their dreams in health care.
Can you tell us a bit about your interest in social media and the kind of content you wish to produce as an ambassador?
My goal is to offer a glimpse into the realities of medical school on Instagram. I aspire to highlight the attainable work-life balance that medical students can achieve. Through interviews with professors and fellow students, I intend to present a diverse array of perspectives on my platform. Alongside sharing my study strategies, campus involvements and personal hobbies, I hope to provide valuable insights into the multifaceted journey of a medical student.
Without giving away too many spoilers, can you tell us some of your accomplishments you are most proud of?
I am most proud of working with the mayor of Gainesville while in undergrad at the University of Florida to gain a better understanding of the limited access to nutrition for low-income populations in the community. I also had the opportunity to lobby in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate for the H.R. 293 Youth Vaping Prevention Act to reduce the use of tobacco products among the youth in our nation.
Lastly, I was fortunate enough to be the president of the University of Florida’s chapter of MEDLIFE, an organization dedicated to increasing awareness of the social determinants of health and the lack of medical care in rural areas of South America.
