Sylvester Radiation Oncology Receives 2023 Press Ganey Human Experience Pinnacle of Excellence Award®
It’s the fifth consecutive year the team has garnered the honor, which is given to health care providers in the top 5 % in patient care experience.
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Radiation Oncology team has been honored with a 2023 Human Experience (HX) Pinnacle of Excellence Award® by Press Ganey.
The team has received annual Pinnacle awards for five consecutive years.
The award is part of Press Ganey’s annual ranking of the top hospitals and health systems in the U.S. and is given to programs that have ranked in the top 5% of health care providers in delivering excellent patient experience over a minimum of three consecutive years.
“I feel thankful for every team member—technologists, nurses, physicists and physicians—who have contributed to this success for five consecutive years,” said Lorraine Portelance, M.D., professor and vice chair of radiation oncology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Sylvester’s radiation oncology clinic division chief. “This achievement is the result of nurturing a culture of being attentive to patient’s needs, going the extra mile and being supportive with each other.”
As one of the only two NCI-designated cancer centers in Florida to offer proton therapy, Sylvester brings the most advanced, cancer-fighting technology available to patients. It was the first in South Florida to use HyperArcTM to treat brain tumors and one of the first in the world to offer ViewRay MRIdian® MRI-guided radiation therapy, a unique technology capable of high-precision delivery of treatment.
The Dwoskin Proton Therapy Center is equipped with Varian’s ProBeam Compact proton therapy system. The machine’s unmatched accuracy allows a proton beam to enter the body with a low radiation dose and adapt to the tumor’s shape and depth.
“The spectrum of technology available in our cancer center allows our experts to offer a personalized treatment plan to each patient,” Dr. Portelance said.
“This recognition reinforces our belief in the transformative power of patient-centered care, positive employee experiences and effective clinical outcomes,” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO and chairman at Press Ganey. “We extend our congratulations to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Together, let us shape a future where exceptional health care experiences are the norm, building trust and confidence in the human experience.”
Press Ganey works with more than 41,000 healthcare facilities in its mission to reduce patient suffering and enhance caregiver resilience to improve the overall safety, quality and experience of care.
