UHealth Names Chief Compliance Officer

A. Barry Grosse, J.D., has been named Chief Compliance Officer of the University of Miami Health System and the Miller School of Medicine.

Grosse, who is now Chief Compliance Officer of Healogics, a wound care management services company in Jacksonville, comes with a wealth of experience building compliance programs at managed care companies, hospitals and health care providers.

Among his previous positions were Chief Compliance Officer of the North America Post-Acute Care Division of Hill-Rom Company, Chief Compliance Officer and Associate General Counsel of the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in South Carolina, and Director of Electronic Commerce Operations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida.

At UHealth and the Miller School Grosse will be responsible for integrating, expanding and overseeing an enterprise-wide compliance program, with an emphasis on education and training on compliance issues as well as the proactive identification of potential regulatory barriers and impediments to health care delivery and research.

Altschuler, M.D., senior vice president for health affairs and CEO of the University of Miami Health System. “In this critically important position, Barry will report to me and will lead us in creating a culture of ethical behavior and compliance with laws and regulations that sets the example for all health care systems in the region, and beyond.”

Grosse is enthusiastic about designing and implementing systems and processes. “I want to ensure that we’re educating key constituents so they see the value and necessity of regulation and can make well-informed decisions,” he said. He will oversee the establishment of methods to improve the efficiency and quality of UHealth services, and to reduce the vulnerability to fraud, abuse and waste.

Grosse has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the Citadel, and a J.D. degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He was an attorney in private practice for several years and served as a commissioned officer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Army Reserve and the Alabama National Guard.

He begins his new job on April 3.
