UHealth Welcomes Dr. Daniel L. Dries
The University of Miami Health System welcomes Daniel L. Dries, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.C., as director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Program.
Clinical specialties: Cardiology — heart failure
Research interests: Molecular biology of the cardiac natriuretic peptide system (NPS) as a compensatory cardiac autocrine and paracrine hormonal system regulating the cardiac response to hypertension and the progression of heart failure. Dries has focused on identifying genetic determinants of adequate NPS function as risk factors for hypertensive heart disease in special populations. Recently he is focusing on identifying the molecular mechanisms leading to attenuation of the natriuretic peptide system’s compensatory actions in advanced stages of heart failure, with a particular focus on impaired corin-mediated natriuretic peptide activation. It is anticipated that elucidating these pathways will identify novel therapeutic targets to retard the progression or development of heart failure.
