Dr. Teshamae Monteith Appointed to International Headache Society Board of Trustees
Teshamae Monteith, M.D., associate professor of clinical neurology and chief of the Headache Division in the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has been appointed to the International Headache Society (IHS) Board of Trustees.
Dr. Monteith recently celebrated her tenth year of membership with the IHS, a charity whose primary purpose is to advance headache science, education, and management while promoting headache awareness worldwide. During her time in IHS, Dr. Monteith directed the Headache Excellence Tournament for junior members, which occurred during one of the joint American Headache Society – International Headache Society meetings.
“I was stunned to receive the invitation,” Dr. Monteith said. “This position is one of the greatest honors of my career. I am excited to contribute to the field of headache medicine in this global capacity, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the best ways to advance the science of headache medicine to meet the population demands.”
As part of the board of trustees, Dr. Monteith will serve as one of the co-op trustees of the charity, a position in which she will take responsibility for all the society’s activities. Co-opted trustees ensure diverse representation and clinical perspectives globally.
“Headaches are characterized as primary and secondary disorders with migraine alone being the second most disabling condition, and the first in individuals less than 50,” Dr. Monteith said. “Being a part of the organizational leadership is a great opportunity to engage in clinical innovation, education and research in headache disorders, and to address the global burden of headaches.”
