Patients Express Gratitude Through UHealth’s “Honor Your Doctor”

The campaign invites patients to express their appreciation for the exemplary care they received at UHealth.

In recognition of National Doctors’ Day on March 30, UHealth—University of Miami Health System, South Florida’s only university-based medical system, has kicked off its annual “Honor Your Doctor” campaign.

The campaign recognizes UHealth’s highly trained physicians whose dedication, competence and compassionate care transform patients’ lives every day.

Patient Cary Tolley said his orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Marilyn Heng, showed him that “that patient care is not a lost art.”

This includes patients like Cary Tolley, who underwent four surgeries in less than a year to repair a severely fractured tibia bone. Now he is back to leading an active life thanks to UHealth orthopaedic surgeon Marilyn Heng, M.D., M.P.H., also professor of clinical orthopaedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

“I have come to realize that being a good doctor takes more than advanced medical knowledge and strong surgical technique. It also requires exemplary interpersonal and communication skills and, most importantly, an extraordinary bedside manner,” said Tolley. “I could not be more grateful to Dr. Heng for giving me the ability to walk again and letting me see that patient care is not a lost art.”

Gratitude is at the heart of UHealth’s “Honor Your Doctor” campaign. It is an opportunity for patients to express their appreciation, through heartfelt letters and donations, for the exemplary care they received at UHealth.

“At UHealth, our more than 1,800 physicians and scientists are committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate health care, leading life-changing discoveries and innovative research and educating the next generation of medical leaders,” said Dipen J. Parekh, M.D., chief operation officer of UHealth, executive dean for clinical affairs and founding director of the Desai Sethi Urology Institute at the Miller School. “Our ‘Honor Your Doctor’ campaign celebrates UHealth medical professionals for the care they provide and the positive impact they make on patients and the South Florida communities they serve.”

In recognition of UHealth’s “Honor Your Doctor” campaign, grateful patients are invited to write a note of appreciation and make a gift to invest in UHealth, allowing its physicians to continue providing exceptional patient care and transform the future of health care through life-changing discoveries.
