Microsoft’s James Weinstein speaks with Dean Henri Ford about how emerging technologies are reshaping the landscape of modern health care.

“Watch me. We’ll test it right here.”

James Weinstein, D.O., M.S., senior vice president of Microsoft Healthcare, pulled out his phone and proceeded to ask a generative artificial intelligence chatbot, “What is hypercholesterolemia?”

Co-Pilot, undaunted by the pressure of presenting before two internationally recognized surgeons and researchers, coolly rattled off an explanation of the condition, outlining risks and the medications often used for management of the disease. A textbook response delivered with digital poise.

“That was absolutely phenomenal,” said Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., dean and chief academic officer of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, nodding and smiling in amazement

Dr. Weinstein grinned, proud of a technology he believes could help break down barriers for patients who struggle to access care.

The exchange unfolded during a taping of “Inside U Miami Medicine,” where the two physicians explored how emerging technologies are reshaping the landscape of modern health care and how physicians can ensure that patient empowerment remains at the center of every decision.

“It’s not about replacing physicians,” Dr. Weinstein explained. “It’s about creating digital teamwork — AI as a partner that helps clinicians make better, faster and more equitable decisions.”

At Microsoft Healthcare, Dr. Weinstein leads strategy and innovation at the intersection of medicine and technology, guiding the company’s efforts to advance AI-enabled health care systems that enhance quality and efficiency of care.

Tune in for a rare glimpse into the mind of an innovator who believes that technology, guided by empathy and a patient-first approach, can truly transform healthcare for all.
